    25th Annual Snowfest Hot Food Competition

          President's Message 


What a winter season! Even with all of the snow and cold weather our ACF Chapter has been very busy. The chapter and Zehnder’s Restaurant hosted our 24th successful Snowfest Hot Food Competition on January 27, 2014. This years theme was Paris in the Moonlight, with proceeds to support the Saginaw East Side Soup Kitchen's "After School Meal Program". For competition results see the Hot Food Competition tab on this page.

Monday, February 17th the chefs of Mott Community College hosted our Annual Chapter Awards Banquet which saw a snow storm with six inches of new snow in the hours just before this event. Despite the treacherous road conditions we had a good turnout. We enjoyed a five course gourmet meal prepared by the culinary students and chef instructors of Mott CC and a very informative presentation from the Pork Producers Board. Awards were presented to 2013 chapter meeting hosts and Chef Mark Brooks was announced as our 2013 Chapter Chef of the Year.  

Chef Phil Fahrenbruch, CEC was presented a plaque, as a memento, honoring his four years of service as our chapter president.

Chefs Mark Handy, CEC and Matt Cooper, CEC announced that Mott CC and our ACF Chapter would, for the first time, be fielding a Knowledge Bowl Team at the upcoming ACF Regional Conference in St. Louis March 16–20. Chef Handy reported that the team has a budget of $7000.00 for the trip to the St. Louis regional and that the team has been raising funds along with preparing for the competition. I am happy to report that that chapter was able to help by contributing $1500.00 to support the team’s trip to St. Louis.

As we make plans for this year’s chapter meetings we will need chefs, restaurants, and food services willing to host meetings. If you have ever thought that you or your business may be interested in hosting a chapter meeting please contact myself or any chapter officer for more information an available dates for 2014 and 2015. Typically chapter meetings are held on the third Monday of February, March, April, May, and June with July and August off then resuming in September, October, and November with December off.

Anyone interested in becoming more active in the chapter by volunteering to serve on a committee, working on a special project, or becoming a chapter officer please contact myself or any chapter officer.

I am looking forward to a very productive term as chapter president and that will only be possible with your support and help. Thank-you in advance for all that you do to move your chapter forward.
